Ask any Hyderabad engineering aspirant with a TG EAPCET rank in the low thousands which two private colleges they are torn between, and the answer is usually the same: Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) at Gandipet or VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology (VNR VJIET) at Bachupally.

Both are autonomous, both hold NAAC A++, and both sit in the same NIRF band. So the choice comes down to details: which campus suits your commute, how much you will pay, and what the placement numbers they submitted to NIRF actually show. This guide puts those numbers side by side, using only official sources.

CBIT vs VNR VJIET at a Glance

  • Established — CBIT: 1979; VNR VJIET: 1995 (Vignana Jyothi Society)
  • Location — CBIT: Gandipet, Hyderabad 500075 (west, near Narsingi/Kokapet); VNR VJIET: Bachupally, Pragathi Nagar, Hyderabad 500090 (north-west, near Nizampet/Miyapur)
  • Affiliating university — CBIT: Osmania University; VNR VJIET: JNTU Hyderabad
  • Autonomous since — CBIT: 2013-14; VNR VJIET: 2012
  • Campus area — CBIT: About 50 acres; VNR VJIET: 26.85 acres
  • NAAC — CBIT: A++ (CGPA 3.59), 3rd cycle, valid June 2023 – June 2028; VNR VJIET: A++ (2nd cycle in 2018: CGPA 3.73); institute states A++
  • NBA (CSE & ECE) — CBIT: Accredited, valid to 30 June 2027; VNR VJIET: Accredited (CSE, ECE and 12 other UG programmes listed)
  • NIRF 2025 Engineering — CBIT: 151–200 band; VNR VJIET: 151–200 band
  • Sanctioned UG intake — CBIT: 1,560 (2024-25); VNR VJIET: 1,800 (2023-24)
  • Median salary, 2023-24 graduates (NIRF) — CBIT: ₹6,00,000; VNR VJIET: ₹4,50,000

Location and Campus

CBIT sits on a large green campus at Gandipet, close to the Financial District and Kokapet IT corridor. If you live in Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki, Manikonda or Gachibowli, it is the easier commute.

VNR VJIET is at Bachupally on the Nizampet–Pragathi Nagar side, which is convenient for students from Kukatpally, KPHB, Miyapur, Nizampet and Medchal-side localities. Its campus is smaller (26.85 acres) but compact.

For day scholars, commute time across Hyderabad can easily be 60–90 minutes each way, so do not underrate this factor.

Fees Compared

CBIT fee

CBIT's August 2025 spot admission notice listed an annual tuition fee of ₹1,65,000 for B.E./B.Tech (convener quota), plus a one-time miscellaneous fee, and stated the fee was subject to further orders of TAFRC, the Telangana government or the High Court.

In March 2026 the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) fixed revised tuition fees for the 2025-26 to 2027-28 block period. News reports of that order put CBIT at ₹1,83,000 per year, the highest in the state. Confirm the exact amount on your allotment order, as the official college-wise fee list is what you will actually pay.

VNR VJIET fee

We could not confirm VNR VJIET's B.Tech tuition fee for 2025-28 from an official document at the time of writing. Reports of the March 2026 TAFRC order place VNR VJIET in the higher fee bracket along with CBIT, but did not give an amount. Check the college-wise fee shown during TG EAPCET web options before you lock your choice.

Fee reimbursement: Eligible Telangana students admitted through convener quota can claim tuition fee reimbursement under state rules. Spot admissions are not eligible, as both colleges' notices make clear.

TG EAPCET 2025 Cutoff (Closing Ranks)

The official TG EAPCET 2025 last-rank statements published on the counselling portal give these closing ranks for CBIT (OU-affiliated, OC category):

  • CSE — Phase 1: Boys 1,201, Girls 1,591; Phase 2: Boys 1,743, Girls 2,181; Final phase: Boys 2,053, Girls 2,471
  • ECE — Phase 1: Boys 3,474, Girls 4,227; Phase 2: Boys 4,205, Girls 5,013; Final phase: Boys 4,205, Girls 5,696

VNR VJIET: We were unable to extract VNR VJIET's rows from the official 2025 last-rank PDFs, so we have not printed numbers here rather than quote unverified third-party figures. Use the official last-rank statement on the TG EAPCET counselling site, or try our college predictor with your rank.

How to read this: if your rank is near these numbers, you are borderline. Cutoffs move every year with seat matrix changes and new branches (CSE-AI/ML, Data Science and so on), so list both colleges and several branches in your web options.

Placements: What the NIRF Data Shows

Highest packages make headlines, but the median salary and the share of graduates placed tell you more. Both colleges report these to NIRF. Here is the most comparable year, the batch graduating in 2023-24 (from each college's NIRF 2025 Engineering submission):

  • Graduated in minimum time — CBIT: 1,226; VNR VJIET: 1,370
  • Students placed — CBIT: 786; VNR VJIET: 877
  • Placed as share of graduates (calculated) — CBIT: about 64%; VNR VJIET: about 64%
  • Median salary — CBIT: ₹6,00,000; VNR VJIET: ₹4,50,000
  • Selected for higher studies — CBIT: 189; VNR VJIET: 127

Earlier years show a similar pattern. CBIT's NIRF data reports a median of ₹7,60,000 for the 2022-23 graduates and ₹6,00,000 for 2024-25 graduates (901 placed out of 1,413). VNR VJIET reported medians of ₹5,15,000 (2021-22) and ₹5,25,000 (2022-23).

Takeaway: placement rates are close, but CBIT has consistently reported a higher median salary and sends more graduates to higher studies. Remember these are college-wide figures; CSE and allied branches usually do better than core branches at both colleges.

On top offers, CBIT's official placement highlights page lists an Atlassian offer of ₹59.91 LPA for the 2023-24 batch, along with Microsoft, Amazon and Salesforce selections in earlier years.

NIRF Ranking History

  • 2025 — CBIT: 151–200; VNR VJIET: 151–200
  • 2024 — CBIT: 151–200; VNR VJIET: not verified
  • 2023 — CBIT: 151–200; VNR VJIET: 101–150 (as stated by the institute)

Which Should You Choose?

There is no wrong answer between these two. Choose by priority:

  • Placement salary is your top priority: CBIT has the stronger median-salary record in NIRF data.
  • You live in Kukatpally, Miyapur, Nizampet or north Hyderabad: VNR VJIET saves you hours each week. A shorter commute often means better attendance and more time for coding practice.
  • You live in west/south-west Hyderabad or want hostel life near the IT corridor: CBIT.
  • Budget is tight and you are not eligible for reimbursement: compare the exact TAFRC fee for both colleges on the counselling portal before deciding; CBIT is reported as the costliest in Telangana.
  • You want a specific newer branch (AI/ML, Data Science, Cyber Security, IoT): VNR VJIET lists a wide spread of NBA-accredited CSE specialisations, so check which branch your rank can actually get at each college.
  • You plan an M.Tech/MS after B.Tech: CBIT reports more graduates going for higher studies each year.

Practical tip: in TG EAPCET web options, rank your branch preference first and college second. CSE at VNR VJIET is usually a better outcome than a branch you dislike at CBIT, and vice versa.
