WBJEE is a gateway for students seeking admission into various professional degree courses in West Bengal. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious engineering entrance exams in India. The board ensures a transparent and merit-based selection process for thousands of seats across the state's technical institutions.

The full form of WBJEE is the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination. It is administered by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board, established in 1962 for the purpose of holding common entrance examinations.

Over the decades, WBJEE has evolved from a traditional subjective exam to a highly competitive objective-type test. The number of applicants has consistently stayed between 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh students annually. While Jadavpur University remains the top choice for rankers, the emergence of high-quality private engineering colleges has increased the scope of the exam significantly.

To be eligible for WBJEE 2026, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Citizenship: Must be a citizen of India.
• Age Limit: Candidates must be at least 17 years old as of December 31, 2026. There is no upper age limit, except for the Marine Engineering course (upper limit 25 years).
• Academic Qualification: Must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Computer Science/Computer Application as compulsory subjects.
• Minimum Marks: General category students need at least 45% aggregate in the three subjects (40% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD).
• Domicile: Domicile of West Bengal is required for admission to Government colleges and for reserved category seats.

The application process is entirely online through the official portal wbjeeb.nic.in. The steps involved are:

1. Registration: Fill in basic details like name, date of birth, and mobile number to generate a User ID and Password.
2. Application Form: Enter academic details and choose exam center preferences.
3. Document Upload: Upload scanned images of photograph and signature as per specified dimensions.
4. Fee Payment: Pay the application fee (approx. INR 500 for General and INR 400 for reserved categories) via Net Banking, Debit, or Credit Card.
5. Confirmation Page: Download and print the confirmation page for future reference.

The WBJEE 2026 exam consists of three primary subjects divided into two papers:

• Paper I: Mathematics
• Paper II: Physics and Chemistry

The syllabus for WBJEE 2026 is based on the 10+2 curriculum of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) and other equivalent boards like CBSE and ISC.

• Mathematics: Algebra, Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry, Calculus, and Vectors.
• Physics: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics, Electrostatics, and Nuclear Physics.
• Chemistry: Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, P-Block elements, Coordination Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry basics.

The exam is conducted in two sessions on a single day. All questions are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) categorized into three types:

• Category 1: 1 mark per question, 1/4 negative marking.
• Category 2: 2 marks per question, 1/2 negative marking.
• Category 3: 2 marks per question, no negative marking (multiple correct options).

Total Marks: 200 (100 for Mathematics, 100 for Physics & Chemistry combined).

The admission journey follows these stages:

• Step 1: Application Submission.
• Step 2: Appearing for the WBJEE Entrance Exam.
• Step 3: Publication of Rank Card.
• Step 4: Centralized Online Counselling (e-Counselling).
• Step 5: Physical Reporting and Document Verification at the allotted institute.

Many prestigious institutions accept WBJEE scores, including:

• Government Universities: Jadavpur University, Calcutta University, Kalyani University, MAKAUT.
• Government Engineering Colleges: Jalpaiguri Govt. Engg. College, KGEC Kalyani.
• Private Institutes: Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM), Heritage Institute of Technology, Haldia Institute of Technology.

Results are published in the form of a Rank Card. It contains the candidate's scores in Paper I and Paper II, along with two ranks:

• GMR (General Merit Rank): Used for admission to all Engineering and Architecture courses.
• PMR (Pharmacy Merit Rank): Used for admission to Pharmacy courses (except at Jadavpur University).

Once the results are declared, candidates must download their rank cards. Based on the GMR, candidates must participate in the e-Counselling process. Students should research various branches and colleges to prepare their 'Choice Filling' list.

The WBJEEB conducts centralized online counselling. The process includes:

• Registration: Candidates pay a counselling fee and register.
• Choice Filling: Selecting preferred colleges and branches in order of priority.
• Seat Allotment: Seats are allotted based on rank and availability in multiple rounds.
• Reporting: Allotted candidates must pay the seat acceptance fee and report for document verification.

The cut-off for WBJEE 2026 will be released as 'Opening' and 'Closing' ranks for each round of counselling. Factors affecting the cut-off include the difficulty level of the paper, the number of applicants, and the total seats available in high-demand branches like Computer Science and Engineering.
