Important Note: Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially phased out the M.Phil. degree. Universities in India are no longer permitted to offer new M.Phil. programs. • Academic Qualification: Candidates must have completed a Master's degree in a relevant subject from a recognized university.

• Government Universities: Fees ranged from ₹2,000 to ₹20,000 per annum.
• Private Institutions: Fees could range from ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 per annum.
• Scholarships: Students qualifying for UGC-NET JRF were eligible for monthly fellowships. Many universities also provided institutional fellowships to non-NET research scholars.
