The full form of XAT is the Xavier Aptitude Test. It has been conducted for over 70 years to select the most deserving candidates for management education in India.

Historically, XAT was a paper-based test. However, in recent years, it has transitioned to a fully digital Computer Based Test (CBT). The exam has evolved to include unique sections like 'Decision Making' and 'Essay Writing,' which set it apart from other entrance exams like CAT or GMAT. For 2026, the exam continues to emphasize holistic aptitude over rote memorization.

The eligibility criteria for XAT 2026 are as follows:

• Education: For UG programs, candidates must have completed or be appearing for their Class 12 (10+2) examinations from a recognized board.
• Minimum Marks: Most participating institutes require at least 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD).
• Age Limit: There is no specific upper age limit to appear for the XAT exam.
• Nationality: Indian Trend, NRIs, and Foreign Nationals are eligible to apply.

The application process is entirely online. Follow these steps:

1. Visit the official XAT website.
2. Click on 'Register' and create a login ID using your email and phone number.
3. Fill in personal, academic, and professional details.
4. Upload scanned documents (Photograph and Signature).
5. Select the preferred test cities and XLRI programs (if applicable).
6. Pay the application fee (Expected to be around ₹2,100 - ₹2,200) via online gateway.

The XAT exam is divided into several core subjects designed to test diverse skill sets:

• Verbal and Logical Ability (VA & LR)
• Decision Making (DM)
• Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation (QA & DI)

The 2026 syllabus covers the following areas:
