The full form of the NIFT Entrance Exam is the National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Examination. It is often referred to simply as the NIFT Exam.

In recent years, the NIFT Entrance Exam has seen significant changes, most notably the transition of the primary conducting authority to the National Testing Agency (NTA). This move has streamlined the registration and examination process, making it more tech-savvy and transparent. The number of applicants has consistently grown, reflecting the rising popularity of design careers in India.

To be eligible for the NIFT 2026 UG programs, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Age Limit: Maximum age should be 24 years as of August 1, 2026 (5-year relaxation for SC/ST/PWD).
• Educational Qualification for B.Des: Must have passed 10+2 or equivalent from any recognized board.
• Educational Qualification for B.FTech: Must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• Appearing Candidates: Students appearing for their final board exams in 2026 are also eligible to apply.

The application process is entirely online. Follow these steps:

1. Visit the official NTA NIFT website.
2. Register using a valid email ID and mobile number.
3. Fill out the application form with personal and academic details.
4. Upload scanned documents including a photograph and signature.
5. Pay the application fee via online payment gateways (Credit/Debit Card, Net Banking, or UPI).

The UG entrance exam comprises two main written tests for B.Des and one for B.FTech:

• B.Des: Written Test (CAT + GAT) followed by a Situation Test. CAT accounts for 50%, GAT 30%, and Situation Test 20% of the final weightage.
• B.FTech: Written Test (GAT only). The GAT score constitutes 100% of the selection criteria for B.FTech.
• Medium: The question paper is provided in both English and Hindi.

The admission process follows a multi-step journey:

Following these stages, a Common Merit Rank (CMR) is generated, which is used for the centralized counselling process.

NIFT conducts Centralized Counselling for seat allocation. During this process:
