If you are in Class 12 this year, JEE Main 2027 is less than 100 days away. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has already put JEE (Main) 2027 Session 1 on its tentative exam calendar for January 2027, so registration should open within the next few weeks.

This guide covers what NTA has confirmed so far, what is still expected, and a practical plan for the time you have left. We will update this page when the official JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin is released.

Status as of 15 October 2026: NTA has released a tentative exam calendar covering exams up to March 2027. The JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin and registration form are not yet released. Any registration date you see elsewhere is an estimate until NTA publishes it on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

JEE Main 2027: Key Dates and Facts

  • Conducting body: National Testing Agency (NTA). Confirmed
  • Session 1 exam dates: 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027 (31 January buffer). Tentative (NTA exam calendar, 16 Sep 2026)
  • Session 1 registration: Expected late October to November 2026
  • Session 2 exam: Expected in April 2027 (2026 pattern: 2–9 April)
  • Mode: Computer Based Test (Paper 2A drawing test on paper), as per the 2026 bulletin
  • Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech): 75 questions, 300 marks, 3 hours, as per the 2026 bulletin
  • Languages: 13, as per the 2026 bulletin
  • Official websites: jeemain.nta.nic.in, nta.ac.in

When Will JEE Main 2027 Registration Start?

NTA has not announced the registration date yet. Past cycles show a consistent pattern: the Session 1 form usually opens between the last few days of October and the first days of November.

  • JEE Main 2026: Session 1 registration opened 31 October 2025 (closed 27 November 2025); exam 21–30 January 2026
  • JEE Main 2025: Session 1 registration opened 28 October 2024; exam in January 2025
  • JEE Main 2024: Session 1 registration opened 1 November 2023; exam in January 2024

Based on this, JEE Main 2027 registration is expected to open in late October or early November 2026 and stay open for about four weeks. Because the 2027 exam is tentatively planned to start on 22 January, the window is likely to be similar to last year.

For Session 2, the 2026 bulletin said the application window would reopen in the last week of January, with the exam held from 2 to 9 April 2026. A similar schedule is expected for 2027.

Documents to keep ready

Do not wait for the form to open. Keep these ready now:

  • Class 10 certificate (for name and date of birth)
  • Class 12 roll number (if appearing in 2027)
  • Recent passport-size photograph and scanned signature
  • Aadhaar or another valid government photo ID
  • Category certificate (EWS / OBC-NCL / SC / ST) and PwD certificate, if applicable
  • An active email ID and mobile number that you will keep using until counselling ends

NTA publishes exact file sizes and formats for photos and documents in the Information Bulletin. Check them before uploading.

Application fee (2026 reference)

NTA has not published the 2027 fee. For reference, here is what the JEE Main 2026 Information Bulletin listed per session for one paper at centres in India (processing charges and GST extra):

  • General: Male ₹1,000; Female ₹800
  • Gen-EWS / OBC (NCL): Male ₹900; Female ₹800
  • SC / ST / PwD: ₹500
  • Third gender: ₹500

Fees were higher for candidates choosing two or more papers and for exam centres outside India.

JEE Main 2027 Eligibility (Expected)

The 2027 criteria will be confirmed in the new bulletin. Here is what applied for 2026, which is the best guide for now:

  • Age limit: NTA set no age limit for JEE Main 2026. Individual institutes may have their own age rules.
  • Year of passing Class 12: For 2026, candidates who passed Class 12 in 2024 or 2025, or were appearing in 2026, were eligible. If NTA follows the same rule, 2025, 2026 and 2027 Class 12 candidates should be eligible for JEE Main 2027. Treat this as expected until confirmed.
  • Number of attempts: You can appear in one or both sessions. If you take both, your better NTA score counts for the merit list.
  • 75% criterion (for admission, not for the exam): For admission to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutes, the 2026 bulletin required at least 75% aggregate in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD), or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board.

For Paper 2A (B.Arch), the 2026 bulletin required at least 45% aggregate with Physics and Mathematics. For Paper 2B (B.Planning), it required 50% in Mathematics and 50% aggregate.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern

Unless the bulletin announces changes, the pattern is expected to stay the same as 2026.

Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech)

  • Mathematics: 20 MCQs + 5 numerical questions, 100 marks
  • Physics: 20 MCQs + 5 numerical questions, 100 marks
  • Chemistry: 20 MCQs + 5 numerical questions, 100 marks
  • Total: 60 MCQs + 15 numerical questions, 300 marks
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Marking: +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer, 0 for unanswered. This applies to both MCQs and numerical questions in 2026.
  • Numerical answers: Rounded to the nearest integer.

Paper 2A (B.Arch) and 2B (B.Planning)

  • Paper 2A: Mathematics (100), Aptitude (200) and Drawing (100), for 400 marks. The drawing test is done on paper.
  • Paper 2B: Mathematics (100), Aptitude (200) and Planning-based questions (100), for 400 marks. The whole paper is computer-based.

Scoring and normalisation

NTA converts raw marks into NTA scores (percentiles) so that candidates in different shifts are compared fairly. The final merit list combines scores across shifts and sessions. JEE Main is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, the route to the IITs.

100-Day JEE Main 2027 Preparation Plan

With Session 1 tentatively starting on 22 January 2027, you have about 14 weeks. Here is a plan that works alongside Class 12 board preparation.

Phase 1: Close the gaps (mid-October to mid-November)

  • List the chapters you have not finished in each subject and complete them first.
  • Download the official JEE Main syllabus from jeemain.nta.nic.in. Use it to cross out topics that are not tested.
  • Spend about 70% of your time on concepts and 30% on chapter-wise practice questions.
  • Register for the exam as soon as the form opens. Do not leave it to the last week.

Phase 2: Practice under exam conditions (mid-November to end-December)

  • Solve NTA's previous-year question papers. NTA has published the 2026 Session 2 B.Tech papers on jeemain.nta.nic.in.
  • Take at least two full-length, 3-hour mock tests every week, in the same time slot as your likely shift.
  • After each mock, spend as long analysing it as you spent writing it. Note silly mistakes, time sinks and weak chapters.
  • Practise the numerical section carefully. In 2026, wrong numerical answers also lost marks.

Phase 3: Revise and sharpen (January 2027)

  • Revise using your own short notes and formula sheets, not new books.
  • Focus on high-frequency areas you already understand well. Accuracy matters more than attempting every question.
  • Download the admit card as soon as NTA releases it, and check your exam city intimation slip.
  • Sleep on time during exam week. Your shift could start early in the morning.

Subject tips

  • Mathematics: It is usually the most time-consuming section. Practise calculus, coordinate geometry and algebra under timed conditions.
  • Physics: Mechanics, electrodynamics and modern physics need both concepts and numerical speed.
  • Chemistry: It is often the most scoring section. NCERT textbooks are essential for inorganic and organic chemistry.

What After JEE Main 2027?

Your JEE Main score is used for:

  • JoSAA counselling for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs
  • JEE Advanced eligibility (top performers only), for IIT admission
  • State and private university admissions that accept JEE Main scores
