NIMCET 2026 Application Deadline Extended to April 30; NIT Jamshedpur Updates Exam Center List
In addition to the deadline extension, the organizing committee has updated the list of examination centers. To facilitate better access for students from the Northeast, new centers have been established in Silchar and Agartala. This move is part of a broader initiative to make the NIMCET more accessible to students from diverse geographical backgrounds. Candidates who have already submitted their forms will be given a 'correction window' from May 2 to May 5 to update their center preferences or rectify any minor errors in their application details.
NIMCET remains the most sought-after entrance exam for MCA aspirants in India, providing a single-window admission process to nine participating NITs, including those at Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, and Allahabad. The exam tests candidates on Mathematics, Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, and General English. Mathematics carries the highest weightage, and experts often describe the level of questions as comparable to the undergraduate engineering entrance exams, requiring a strong foundation in calculus, algebra, and probability.
Professor R.K. Sinha, the NIMCET 2026 Coordinator, stated, 'We want to ensure that no deserving candidate is left out due to administrative delays beyond their control. The extension is a one-time measure, and we urge students to complete their registrations well before the new deadline to avoid technical glitches on the final day.' He also noted that the exam date remains unchanged, scheduled for the second week of June, with results expected by the end of the month.
To aid students in their preparation, the NIMCET portal has also released a set of official mock tests. These tests are designed to familiarize candidates with the CBT interface and the distribution of questions across sections. Students are advised to practice these mocks to improve their speed and accuracy. The competition is expected to be intense this year, as many IT professionals are looking to upskill through an MCA degree in light of the growing demand for specialized software developers and data scientists.
Following the result declaration, a centralized counseling process will be conducted. Seats will be allotted based on the NIMCET rank, category, and the preferences filled by the candidates. The participating NITs offer a robust curriculum that blends theoretical computer science with practical industry applications, making their graduates highly employable in the global tech market. Detailed instructions regarding the counseling and document verification process will be released on the official website following the examination.
