JEE Advanced 2026: IIT Kanpur Opens Registration Portal for Top 2.5 Lakh JEE Main Qualifiers
According to the official notification, the registration window will remain open until April 30, 2026, while the fee payment facility will be available until May 1. IIT Kanpur has emphasized that no extensions will be granted given the tight schedule leading up to the exam date scheduled for late May. The institute has also introduced a revised interface for the application portal this year to ensure a smoother experience for students in remote areas with lower internet speeds, reflecting a commitment to digital accessibility.
Candidates must ensure they meet the specific eligibility criteria, which includes the 'Two Attempts in Two Consecutive Years' rule. This year, the board has also clarified the documentation required for the EWS and OBC-NCL categories, mandating that certificates must be issued on or after April 1, 2026, to be valid for the current admission cycle. Students are advised to double-check their category certificates before uploading to avoid any last-minute discrepancies during the counseling phase.
The JEE Advanced 2026 will consist of two mandatory papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, both of which will be conducted in a Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. Each paper will have a duration of three hours and will test the candidates' conceptual clarity and analytical skills in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The exam pattern, which typically changes every year in terms of marking schemes and question types, remains a closely guarded secret by the organizing committee to maintain the competitive integrity of the test.
Professor Ananya Deshmukh, the Chairperson of JEE Advanced 2026 at IIT Kanpur, stated that the institute has increased the number of exam centers this year to accommodate the rising number of applicants from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. 'We have partnered with several high-tech centers across India to ensure a seamless and fair examination process. Our focus is on maintaining the highest standards of security and transparency,' she said in a press release. Students are encouraged to download the information brochure for a detailed understanding of the marking scheme and syllabus.
As the registration proceeds, coaching institutes and academic experts suggest that students should focus on solving previous years' 'Advanced' level problems rather than just 'Main' level questions. With only a few weeks left for the final showdown, the pressure is mounting on aspirants. The results of the JEE Advanced 2026 will eventually determine the seat allocation for the 23 IITs across the country through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counseling process, which is expected to begin in the third week of June.
