The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, the organizing body for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026, has released the comprehensive notification and schedule for the upcoming examination. According to the official statement, the registration portal will open on April 27, 2026, and will remain active until May 10, 2026. This announcement comes as a relief to thousands of engineering aspirants who have been waiting for clarity on the examination timeline after the completion of the JEE Main January session.

To be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026, candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in the B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE Main 2026. The notification further clarifies that the percentages of various categories of candidates to be shortlisted are: 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is OPEN for all. Within each of these five categories, a 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates.

Dr. Arpan Mukherjee, a senior faculty member at IIT Delhi, stated, "We have streamlined the registration process this year to ensure a glitch-free experience for students. We are also increasing the number of examination centers in rural areas to provide better accessibility to talented students from across the country." He also emphasized that the 75% aggregate marks requirement in Class 12 (or equivalent) Board examination remains a mandatory criterion for admission to IITs, along with the category-specific relaxations.

The examination is scheduled to be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Paper 1 will take place from 09:00 to 12:00 IST, and Paper 2 will follow from 14:30 to 17:30 IST. Both papers are compulsory for all candidates. The exam will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only. Candidates are advised to keep their scanned documents ready, including Class 10 and 12 certificates, category certificates, and a valid government ID.

In terms of the syllabus, no major changes have been introduced this year, following the significant overhaul seen in previous cycles. However, experts suggest that the difficulty level might see a slight uptick in the Mathematics section, based on recent trends in JEE Main. Students are encouraged to practice previous years' question papers and participate in the official mock tests that will be hosted on the IIT Delhi portal starting mid-May.

As the competition intensifies, coaching institutes across Kota and Hyderabad are reporting a surge in crash course enrollments. Educational psychologists recommend that students focus on conceptual clarity rather than rote learning during these final months. The results for JEE Advanced 2026 are expected to be declared by June 28, 2026, followed immediately by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counseling process for admissions into the 23 IITs across India.
