In a significant move, the Consortium of NLUs has announced the formation of a high-level committee to review the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) structure for the year 2027. The goal is to make the exam more inclusive and less reliant on speed-reading skills, which has been a point of contention among students from non-English medium backgrounds.
While the 2026 exam cycle is already underway, any proposed changes will only be implemented from the December 2026 exam (for the 2027 session). The committee will also look into increasing the number of regional test centers to improve accessibility for rural students. A public feedback portal will be opened next month for stakeholders to submit their suggestions.
