NIMCET 2026: Official Notification Released for MCA Admissions at NITs; Exam Scheduled for June 14

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur, the coordinating body for the NIT Master of Computer Applications Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) 2026, has officially released the exam notification and information brochure. NIMCET is the gateway for admission into the MCA programs offered by participating NITs at Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli, and Warangal. The exam is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, in a single shift across various centers nationwide.
The online application process is set to commence on March 25, 2026, and will conclude on April 20, 2026. Eligible candidates must have a B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons) / BCA / BIT / B.Voc. (Computer Science/ Computer Applications) of minimum three years full-time from a recognized University with Mathematics/ Statistics as one of the subjects. Candidates from the General/OBC category must have secured at least 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA, while SC/ST candidates require 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA.
According to the brochure, the NIMCET 2026 question paper will consist of 120 multiple-choice questions. The distribution is as follows: Mathematics (50 questions), Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning (40 questions), Computer Awareness (10 questions), and General English (20 questions). Each correct answer will fetch 4 marks, while each incorrect answer will result in a negative marking of 1 mark. The total duration of the exam will be two hours. This year, the board has introduced a more comprehensive 'Computer Awareness' section, including basics of Operating Systems and Data Structures, reflecting the evolving requirements of the IT industry.
"The demand for skilled software professionals is at an all-time high, and our MCA program is designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice," said the NIMCET 2026 Coordinator. "We have ensured that the examination process is transparent and follows the highest standards of integrity. We encourage students to read the brochure carefully before filling out the application form to avoid any errors in their personal or academic data."
After the examination, the results and rank list are expected to be announced by the first week of July 2026. This will be followed by a centralized online counseling process where candidates can lock their choices of institutes based on their ranks. The admission process is highly competitive, as thousands of students vie for a limited number of seats in these prestigious institutes. To assist candidates, NIT Jamshedpur will also set up help desks and an online query portal to address any technical difficulties during the registration phase.
Preparation experts suggest that candidates should focus heavily on the Mathematics section, as it carries the highest weightage and often acts as the tie-breaker in rankings. Solving previous years' question papers and taking timed mock tests are highly recommended to improve speed and accuracy. With the IT sector seeing a resurgence in hiring for specialized roles, an MCA from a top NIT remains one of the most sought-after post-graduate qualifications in India.
