The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur has officially released the information brochure and schedule for the NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) 2026. As the coordinating institute for this year, NIT Jamshedpur will oversee the entire process, from application management to the final seat allotment across the participating NITs. The registration portal is scheduled to go live on March 28, 2026, and will remain open until April 25, 2026. Aspirants seeking admission into the prestigious MCA programs at NITs in Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli, and Warangal are required to qualify through this single-window entrance exam.

The eligibility criteria for NIMCET 2026 remain consistent with previous years: candidates must hold a B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons), BCA, or BIT degree of at least three years from a recognized university with Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects. A minimum of 60% aggregate marks (or 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale) is required for General and OBC candidates, while SC/ST candidates need 55% (or 6.0 CGPA). Students currently in their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply, provided they can submit proof of their results by September 2026. The application fee is set at ₹2,500 for open-category candidates and ₹1,250 for reserved categories.

NIMCET 2026 will be conducted on June 7, 2026, as a computer-based test (CBT). The exam will consist of 120 multiple-choice questions covering Mathematics (50 questions), Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning (40 questions), Computer Awareness (10 questions), and General English (20 questions). NIT Jamshedpur has introduced a revised syllabus for the Computer Awareness section to include basic concepts of Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence, reflecting the evolving needs of the IT industry. This change aims to ensure that incoming students are better prepared for the advanced curriculum of the MCA program.

Following the entrance exam, the results are expected to be declared by June 25, 2026. Successful candidates will then participate in a centralized online counseling process involving three rounds of seat allotment and a final 'special round' for any vacant seats. With the software industry in India seeing a renewed demand for specialized roles in data science and cybersecurity, the competition for the roughly 800 seats available through NIMCET is expected to be fierce this year. Prospective students are advised to focus heavily on the Mathematics section, which carries the highest weightage in the final merit ranking.
