JEE Main 2026: NTA Extends Session 2 Registration Deadline to March 25

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially extended the registration deadline for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 2. Originally scheduled to conclude on March 18, the window will now remain open until 11:50 PM on March 25, 2026. This decision comes after the NTA received numerous representations from candidates across India citing technical glitches on the official portal and difficulties in uploading necessary documentation due to ongoing board examinations in several states.
In an official circular released late Sunday evening, NTA Director Vineet Joshi emphasized that this extension is a one-time opportunity for students who missed the initial window. 'We have observed a significant surge in traffic on the JEE portal over the last 48 hours, which led to intermittent downtime. To ensure that every deserving candidate has a fair chance to apply for the country's premier engineering entrance exam, the competent authority has decided to extend the timeline,' the statement read. This move is expected to benefit over 50,000 additional applicants who were reportedly stuck in the payment processing stage.
Statistics released by the NTA indicate that for the 2026 cycle, Session 1 saw a record-breaking 12.4 lakh aspirants. The agency anticipates that Session 2 will see even higher numbers as students look to improve their percentiles. The correction window for already registered candidates is also expected to be shifted, likely opening on March 27 and closing on March 29. Students are advised to double-check their category certificates and photograph specifications, as the NTA has tightened the scrutiny process this year to prevent identity fraud.
Education consultants and coaching experts have welcomed the move. Mr. Alok Pandey, a senior faculty member at a leading institute in Kota, remarked, 'The clash between the JEE registration dates and the Class 12 board exams for CBSE and various state boards was creating immense pressure on students. This additional week provides the much-needed breathing room for aspirants to focus on their boards first and then complete their JEE formalities with a calm mind. However, students should not wait until the last hour of March 25 to avoid similar technical issues.'
Candidates must also note that the exam dates for Session 2 remain unchanged. The computer-based test is scheduled to take place between April 5 and April 15, 2026, across 350 cities in India and 15 cities abroad. The City Intimation Slips are expected to be released by the final week of March, followed by the Admit Cards three days before the commencement of the exam. The NTA has also introduced a new 'Help Desk' feature on their mobile app to assist rural candidates with the registration process in real-time.
