IIT Kanpur Releases JEE Advanced 2026 Information Brochure; Registration to Commence on April 27

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, designated as the organizing body for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026, has released the comprehensive information brochure on its official portal. This document outlines the critical dates, eligibility requirements, and the revised fee structure for the prestigious entrance test. The examination is scheduled to take place on May 24, 2026, across various cities in India and select international locations. Aspirants who fall within the top 2,50,000 rank holders in the JEE Main 2026 results will be eligible to apply for this final hurdle toward securing a seat in the 23 IITs across the country.
The registration process is set to begin on April 27, 2026, and will remain open until May 4, 2026. This year, the organizing committee has introduced several minor changes to the exam day protocol. Candidates will be required to undergo a mandatory biometric verification process that includes both facial recognition and thumbprint scanning at the entry points. This move is aimed at further tightening security and preventing any instances of impersonation. Furthermore, the brochure confirms that the exam will consist of two mandatory papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, both of three hours duration, held in back-to-back sessions on the same day.
According to Professor Rajesh Pathak, the Chairperson of JEE Advanced 2026 at IIT Kanpur, the syllabus remains largely consistent with the previous year's updated curriculum, which aligns with the National Education Policy's focus on application-based learning. 'We are looking for students who don't just memorize formulas but understand the underlying physical and mathematical principles,' Pathak said during a press briefing. He also mentioned that the institute has increased the number of exam centers in the North-Eastern states and Jammu & Kashmir to facilitate easier access for students from these regions.
Financial assistance for the application fee continues to be available for female candidates and those from reserved categories, with the fee being significantly subsidized. The brochure also details the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling process, which will begin shortly after the JEE Advanced results are declared in mid-June. Students are encouraged to carefully study the seat matrix and previous years' opening and closing ranks to make informed choices during the counseling rounds.
One of the most notable aspects of the 2026 brochure is the emphasis on the 'Foreign National' category. Candidates who are not citizens of India and do not belong to the OCI/PIO category will be considered under a separate quota, and their registration process follows a different timeline. For domestic students, the document provides a checklist of necessary documents, including Class 10 and 12 certificates, category certificates (if applicable), and a valid ID proof, which must be uploaded during the registration phase.
As the April 27 deadline approaches, coaching institutes and academic experts are advising students to focus on solving previous years' Advanced papers and taking full-length mock tests to build stamina for the six-hour exam day.
