The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore has become the first among the 'Old IIMs' to release the final selection list for its flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management for the 2026-2028 batch. The results, which were published on the institute's official admission portal today, follow a rigorous selection process involving CAT 2025 scores, Writing Ability Tests (WAT), and Personal Interviews (PI).
This year's selection data reveals a notable shift in the candidate profile. While engineers continue to form a substantial portion of the cohort, there is a 12% increase in the selection of students from non-engineering backgrounds, including Humanities, Law, and Medicine. Furthermore, the institute has reported that nearly 35% of the selected candidates are women, reflecting IIM Bangalore's ongoing efforts to improve gender parity in management education. The composite score calculation this year gave significant weightage to 'Work Experience' and 'Academic Consistency' alongside the CAT percentile.
'The 2026-28 batch promises to be one of our most diverse yet. We have selected individuals who not only excel in quantitative aptitude but also demonstrate strong leadership potential and social awareness,' said the Admissions Chairperson. The waitlist for the general category is expected to move slowly this year, as the conversion rate for the first list is predicted to be high. Candidates who have received an offer must pay the seat acceptance fee by April 5, 2026, to confirm their admission.
For those on the waitlist, the institute will provide weekly updates starting from the second week of April. Experts suggest that candidates with waitlist numbers under 50 in the general category have a fair chance of conversion, though this varies significantly across categories like NC-OBC, SC, and ST. The session for the new batch is scheduled to commence in the third week of June with a week-long orientation program.
Other top-tier institutes like IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta are expected to follow suit and release their final lists by the first week of April. The MBA admission season in India is reaching its peak, with several private B-schools also concluding their final rounds. Aspirants are advised to keep their original documents ready for the physical verification process that will take place during registration.
