The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially kicked off the evaluation process for the Class 12 board examinations today, March 19, 2026. As the major core subjects like Physics, Accountancy, and Political Science have concluded over the last fortnight, the board has deployed over 1.5 lakh examiners across 3,500 evaluation centers nationwide. This year, the board is aiming for a record turnaround time to ensure that results are declared by the second week of May, allowing students ample time for university entrance applications.

In a significant shift this year, CBSE has introduced a 'Zero-Error' evaluation policy. Under this framework, every answer script undergoes a three-tier checking process. The primary examiner evaluates the paper, followed by a review by a coordinator, and finally, a random spot-check by the Head Examiner. This move is intended to minimize the number of verification and re-evaluation requests that typically flood the board offices post-result declaration. The board has also integrated a digital marking system for specific subjects to streamline the totaling of marks.

Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, mentioned that the board is particularly satisfied with the implementation of the new competency-based question format. 'We observed that students were better prepared for application-based questions this year compared to the rote-learning patterns of the past,' he remarked. The board has instructed evaluators to be mindful of the 'step-marking' scheme, ensuring that students are rewarded for their logical approach even if the final numerical answer is slightly off due to calculation errors.

Furthermore, the CBSE has issued a strict advisory to schools and evaluation centers regarding the security of the answer scripts. All centers are under 24/7 CCTV surveillance, and the movement of bundles is tracked through a dedicated GPS-enabled mobile application. The board has also set up a psychological helpline for evaluators to manage the stress of the high-stakes checking process, emphasizing the need for accuracy over speed.

Students and parents are advised to ignore rumors regarding the 'leaking' of marking schemes on social media. The official marking scheme used by evaluators is confidential and is only released on the CBSE academic website after the results are declared. For now, students are encouraged to focus on upcoming competitive exams like NEET and CUET, while the board works behind the scenes to finalize the scores. The internal assessment marks from schools have already been uploaded to the 'Sangam' portal, ensuring that the final result calculation can proceed without delays.
