The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP), commonly known as the Board of High School and Intermediate Education Uttar Pradesh, is the primary regulatory body for school education in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Established in 1921 under an act of the United Provinces Legislative Council, the board conducted its first examination in 1923. Prior to its establishment, the University of Allahabad was the examining body for these examinations. UPMSP was one of the first boards in India to adopt the 10+2 system of education from its inception.

Over the decades, the board has evolved significantly, shifting its headquarters from various locations to its current administrative hub in Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), and setting up regional offices in Meerut, Varanasi, Bareilly, and Gorakhpur to manage the massive student volume.

UPMSP's jurisdiction is strictly limited to the state of Uttar Pradesh. It governs more than 27,000 secondary schools affiliated with the board. These include:

• Aided Private Schools
• Unaided (Private) Schools

The board ensures that all affiliated institutions follow the NCERT-based curriculum to maintain national educational standards.

The High School (Class 10) curriculum follows a Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) pattern. Key highlights include:

• Subjects: Students typically take 6 subjects, including Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and an elective.
• Marking Scheme: Each subject is worth 100 marks, divided into 70 marks for the board theory exam and 30 marks for internal assessment/practicals.

• Grading: A nine-point grading system (A1 to E2) is used, where D is the minimum passing grade.

The Intermediate (Class 12) examination is conducted across three major streams: Science, Commerce, and Humanities (Arts).

• Exam Structure: Most theory papers are of 100 marks. For subjects with practicals (like Physics, Chemistry, Biology), the split is 70 marks for theory and 30 marks for practical exams.
• Language: General Hindi is a compulsory subject for most students.
• Evaluation: The board utilizes a centralized evaluation system to ensure fairness and transparency in marking.

The UPMSP 2026 Board Exams for Class 10 and 12 are expected to be held between February and March 2026. The official time table is usually released in December or January.

To appear for the UPMSP exams, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Regular Students: Must have a minimum of 75% attendance in a school affiliated with UPMSP.
• Private Candidates: Individuals can register as private candidates if they meet specific age and residency requirements.
• Registration: Schools usually handle the registration process for regular students through the UPMSP Portal. Private candidates must register via authorized centers.

To pass the UP Board exams, a student must score a minimum of 33% marks in each subject and in aggregate. In subjects involving practicals, students must pass both theory and practical components separately.

Results are officially announced on the UP Results website. Students who fail in one or two subjects may appear for the Compartment/Improvement exams held shortly after the main results.
