The Telangana Secondary School Certificate (TS SSC) is the public examination conducted for students in Class 10 by the Board of Secondary Education, Telangana (BSET). This board is also known as the Directorate of Government Examinations, Telangana. The TS SSC exam is a critical milestone in the Indian education system, serving as the gateway to higher secondary or intermediate education.

Every year, over 5 lakh students appear for these examinations across thousands of centers in the state. The board is responsible for setting the curriculum, prescribing the syllabus, and conducting the board examinations in a fair and transparent manner.

The Board of Secondary Education, Telangana, was established in June 2014, following the bifurcation of the state of Andhra Pradesh and the formation of Telangana. While the board is relatively young in its current form, it inherited the legacy and administrative framework of the erstwhile combined Andhra Pradesh Board of Secondary Education.

Since its inception, the board has implemented several reforms, including the transition from a traditional marks-based system to the Grade Point Average (GPA) system to reduce academic pressure on students. The board operates under the Ministry of School Education, Government of Telangana.

The TS SSC board governs secondary education exclusively within the state of Telangana. It oversees schools in all 33 districts of the state. The types of schools affiliated with the board include:

• Zilla Parishad Schools
• Aided Schools
• Private Unaided Schools
• Telangana State Residential Schools (TSRJC)
• Social Welfare Residential Schools (TSWREIS)

While the board is specific to Telangana, the SSC certificate issued by BSET is recognized by all major education boards and universities across India and abroad for further studies.

The TS SSC examination evaluates students across six subjects. The exam pattern is designed to test both theoretical knowledge and internal assessment.

Exam Pattern: Each paper is usually for 100 marks, consisting of 80 marks for the Board Theory Exam and 20 marks for Internal Assessment (Formative Assessment). The syllabus is based on the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Telangana textbooks.

Grading System: Students are awarded grades based on their GPA (0 to 10 scale). The grades range from A1 (91-100) to E (below 35).

It is important to note that in Telangana, the term "SSC" refers specifically to the Class 10 examination. The Class 12 equivalent is managed by the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE).

The Intermediate (Class 12) curriculum is divided into two years: Junior Inter (Class 11) and Senior Inter (Class 12). Students choose specific streams such as:

• MPC: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
• BiPC: Biology, Physics, Chemistry
• CEC: Civics, Economics, Commerce
• HEC: History, Economics, Civics

The 2026 Class 12 exams will follow a 100-mark pattern per subject (inclusive of practicals for science subjects) and use a percentage-based grading system converted into divisions (First, Second, Third).

The TS SSC 2026 examinations are tentatively scheduled to take place in March and April 2026. The board typically releases the detailed timetable in December 2025 or January 2026.

• Exam Timings: Generally 9:30 AM to 12:45 PM

To be eligible for the TS SSC 2026 exam, a student must meet the following criteria:

• Must have successfully completed Class 9 from a recognized school.
• Must have the required minimum attendance (usually 75%) in Class 10.
• Must meet the minimum age requirement (usually 14 years as of the exam date).

Registration: For regular students, the registration process is handled by the respective school heads. Private candidates (OSSC) must register through the designated Government Examinations centers. The registration process involves submitting a birth certificate, previous marks memos, and the prescribed examination fee before the deadline in November/December 2025.

The TS SSC 2026 results are expected to be announced in May 2026. The results are published on the official website and through various mobile apps.

Passing Criteria:

• A student must score a minimum of 35% marks in each subject (including both theory and internal marks).
• In the case of Second Language (Hindi), the minimum passing mark is often lower (around 20%).
• Students who fail in one or more subjects can appear for the Advanced Supplementary Examinations, usually held in June 2026, to save their academic year.

The Telangana government and the Central government offer several incentives for TS SSC students:

• National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS): For students from economically weaker sections.
• NTSE (National Talent Search Examination): Recognition and financial aid for meritorious students.
• Pre-Matric Scholarships: Provided by the TS Social Welfare department for SC/ST/OBC students.
• Pratibha Awards: Merit awards for top-ranking students in the state.

Holding a TS SSC certificate allows students to apply for various polytechnic diplomas, ITI courses, and the 2-year Intermediate program.
