The Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan (BSER), popularly known as RBSE, is the primary regulatory body for school education in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Headquartered in Ajmer, the board is responsible for conducting secondary, senior secondary, and other state-level competitive examinations. RBSE aims to provide quality education and maintain high academic standards across thousands of schools in the state.

RBSE was established on December 4, 1957, under the Rajasthan Secondary Education Act. Initially, the board was located in Jaipur, but it was later shifted to Ajmer in 1961. Over the decades, the board has expanded its scope from simply conducting exams to developing curricula, publishing textbooks, and training teachers to align with national educational standards like the NCERT.

The jurisdiction of RBSE is strictly limited to the state of Rajasthan. It oversees more than 6,000 affiliated schools, which include:

• Government Senior Secondary Schools (GSSS)
• Private Schools following the State Board curriculum
• Sanskrit Shiksha institutions
• Specialized vocational training schools

The Class 10 (Secondary) examination covers subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Hindi, English, and a third language (Sanskrit, Urdu, etc.).

The sessional marks are awarded by the school based on attendance, projects, and periodic tests. A grading system from A1 to E is used to reflect student performance.

The Class 12 (Senior Secondary) exams are divided into three streams: Science, Commerce, and Arts. The evaluation depends on the nature of the subject:

• Non-Practical Subjects: 80 (Theory) + 20 (Sessional) = 100 Marks.
• Practical Subjects (e.g., Physics, Chemistry): 56 (Theory) + 14 (Sessional) + 30 (Practical) = 100 Marks.

The syllabus is largely based on NCERT guidelines, ensuring students are well-prepared for national-level entrance exams like JEE and NEET.

For the academic session 2025-2026, the board is expected to follow the traditional timeline:

• Practical Examinations: Expected in late January or February 2026.
• Theory Examinations: Likely to commence in the first week of March 2026 and conclude by early April 2026.
• Time Table Release: Usually published on the official portal in December 2025 or January 2026.

To be eligible for the RBSE exams, a student must:

• Have passed the previous grade (Class 9 for Secondary; Class 11 for Senior Secondary) from a recognized board.
• Maintain a minimum of 75% attendance during the academic year.
• Register through their respective schools by submitting the required fees and documents (Aadhaar card, previous mark sheets, and photographs) usually by October of the preceding year.

To pass the RBSE exams, a student must secure a minimum of 33% marks in each subject. For subjects involving practicals, students must pass both the theory and practical components separately. Results are typically announced in May or June 2026. Students who fail in one or two subjects may appear for the Supplementary Examinations held in July.

The board and the Rajasthan government offer several incentives for high achievers:

• Gargi Puraskar: Financial assistance for meritorious girl students scoring above 75%.
• Indira Priyadarshini Award: Awarded to girls who top their respective categories in the district.
• Laptop Distribution Scheme: Provided to merit list holders in the state.
• State Talent Search Examination (STSE): Conducted by RBSE to provide monthly scholarships to top-performing students.
