The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) is the primary body responsible for determining the policy-related, administrative, cognitive, and intellectual direction of the state's higher educational system. Established under the Madhya Pradesh Secondary Education Act, 1965, the board regulates and supervises the system of Intermediate education in Madhya Pradesh.

The board was established in 1965 to regulate secondary education in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Over the decades, it has evolved from a basic examination body into a comprehensive educational board that focuses on holistic student development. The board is responsible for conducting three main board examinations: the Middle School Exam for Standard VIII, the High School School Certificate Exam for Standard X, and the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Exam for Standard XII.

MPBSE has jurisdiction solely over the state of Madhya Pradesh. It grants affiliation to thousands of government and private schools across all 52 districts of the state. These schools must follow the curriculum and textbooks prescribed by the board, often developed in collaboration with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

The Class 10 (High School) examination pattern usually consists of 80 marks for theory and 20 marks for internal assessment/practicals. For subjects like Science, the division might vary slightly. Students must study three languages, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.

The Class 12 (Higher Secondary) exams are conducted for various streams including Science (PCM/PCB), Commerce, Humanities, Agriculture, and Fine Arts. The marking scheme for non-practical subjects is 80 theory + 20 project work, while practical-based subjects (like Physics, Chemistry, Biology) follow a 70 theory + 30 practical pattern.

Students are required to pass in both theory and practical components separately to be declared successful in the HSSC examination.

The MPBSE 2026 Board Exams are expected to be conducted in the months of February and March 2026. Traditionally, the Class 12 exams begin in the first week of February, followed shortly by the Class 10 exams.

To appear for the MPBSE 2026 exams, students must meet the following criteria:

• Regular Students: Must have completed the previous grade (9th or 11th) from a board-recognized school and maintained the required attendance.
• Private Students: Must register through the MP Online portal by submitting the requisite documents and fees.

Registration usually begins in July/August of the preceding year through the respective schools for regular candidates.

To pass the MPBSE Class 10 and 12 exams, a student must secure a minimum of 33% marks in each subject as well as in the aggregate. In subjects with practicals, students must pass theory and practical exams individually.

The results are typically announced in May. Students can check their scores at mpresults.nic.in by entering their Roll Number and Application Number. Those who fail in one or two subjects are eligible to appear for the Supplementary Examinations held in July.

The Madhya Pradesh government offers several incentives for high-performing MPBSE students:

• Medhavi Chhatra Yojana: Financial assistance for higher education for students scoring above 70% (for MPBSE) in Class 12.
• Laptop Scheme: Meritorious students scoring above a certain threshold (usually 75% or 60% for specific categories) receive funds to purchase laptops.
• Gaon Ki Beti Yojana: Financial aid for rural girl students to pursue higher studies.
