MBOSE

The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) is the primary regulatory body for school education in the state of Meghalaya, India. Established to regulate, supervise, and control school education, MBOSE is responsible for conducting the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations.

MBOSE was set up as per the Meghalaya Board of School Education Act, 1973. Initially, it was established to handle the SSLC exam, but after 1996, when the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) discontinued the Pre-University course, MBOSE took over the responsibility of conducting the HSSLC examinations as well.

The board's headquarters is located in Tura, making it one of the few state boards in India with a headquarters outside the state capital. However, it also maintains a regional office in the capital city, Shillong.

MBOSE has jurisdiction over all schools located within the state of Meghalaya. This includes:

All secondary and higher secondary schools in Meghalaya's 12 districts must be affiliated with MBOSE to present candidates for the SSLC and HSSLC board examinations.

The Class 10 examination is known as the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC). The curriculum includes subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and an Additional Language.

• Exam Pattern: The exams consist of theory papers (usually 80 marks) and internal assessment/practicals (20 marks).

For the 2026 academic session, the MBOSE examinations are expected to follow the traditional timeline:

• HSSLC (Class 12) Exams: Tentatively scheduled for March 2026.
• SSLC (Class 10) Exams: Tentatively scheduled for March 2026.
• Practical Exams: Usually conducted in February 2026.

To appear for the MBOSE 2026 exams, students must meet the following criteria:

• SSLC: Must have passed Class 9 and completed the required attendance in an affiliated school.
• HSSLC: Must have passed the SSLC (Class 10) or equivalent from a recognized board.
• Registration: Registration is typically done through the respective schools. Private candidates must register directly through the board's designated centers.

MBOSE results are generally declared in May or June. The results for HSSLC (Science and Commerce) are often declared earlier than the SSLC and HSSLC (Arts) results.

• Passing Marks: A student must score at least 33% in both theory and practical exams separately.
