JKBOSE

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) is the main board of school education in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh. It is an autonomous body under the administration of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The board is responsible for regulating, controlling, and developing education in the region up to the higher secondary level.

With its headquarters in both Jammu and Srinagar (operating seasonally), JKBOSE plays a pivotal role in conducting public examinations for Class 10 and Class 12, prescribing curricula, and publishing textbooks through its official portal at jkbose.nic.in.

JKBOSE was established through the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education Act, 1975. The primary objective was to reform the school education system in the state and provide a localized board that understands the unique geographical and cultural landscape of the region. Over the decades, it has evolved from a state board into a critical administrative body for the newly formed Union Territories, ensuring academic continuity even in remote areas.

JKBOSE has jurisdiction over all private and government schools located in:

• Jammu Division (including districts like Jammu, Samba, Kathua, etc.)
• Kashmir Division (including districts like Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, etc.)
• Union Territory of Ladakh (Leh and Kargil districts)

There are over 10,000 schools affiliated with JKBOSE, ranging from primary schools to senior secondary institutions.

The Class 10 Secondary School Examination is a crucial milestone. The exam pattern typically includes five compulsory subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Urdu/Hindi/Regional Language.

Students must score at least 33% in each subject to be declared pass. The syllabus can be downloaded from the official syllabus page.

The Higher Secondary Part II (Class 12) exams are conducted across four streams: Science, Commerce, Arts, and Home Science. The exam structure includes a combination of theory papers (usually 70-80 marks) and practicals/internals (20-30 marks).

Key features of the Class 12 pattern include:

• Internal assessment for language subjects.
• Strict adherence to NCERT-based curriculum for core subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Accountancy.
• Grading system based on the aggregate percentage achieved.

For the 2026 Academic Session, JKBOSE follows a Uniform Academic Calendar. The tentative schedule is as follows:

• Soft Zone Areas: Exams for Class 10 and 12 are expected to commence in March 2026.
• Hard Zone Areas: Exams for difficult terrain regions are expected in April 2026.

The detailed time table will be released on the official Date Sheet section approximately two months before the exams.

To appear for JKBOSE exams, students must meet the following criteria:

• Class 10: Must have passed Class 9 from a recognized board and maintained 75% attendance.
• Class 12: Must have successfully completed Class 11 and registered through an affiliated school.

Registration usually happens through the respective schools, where students fill out the 'Enrollment Form' and pay the prescribed fee. Private candidates can register directly through the JKBOSE online portal.

JKBOSE results are usually declared within 45 to 60 days after the completion of exams. To pass, a student must secure a minimum of 33% in both theory and practical exams separately. Results can be accessed via the Results Portal by entering the Roll Number or Name.

Students who fail in one or two subjects are eligible for Bi-annual/Supplementary exams to save their academic year.

JKBOSE facilitates various state and central scholarship schemes for meritorious and underprivileged students, including:

• National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS)
• Post-Matric Scholarship for SC/ST/OBC students.
• Board-specific merit awards for top rankers in Class 10 and 12.
