The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) is the state-run educational board responsible for conducting and supervising intermediate, secondary, and other state-level examinations. Established by the Jharkhand government, the council is dedicated to providing high-quality education and maintaining academic standards across the state. The Jharkhand Academic Council was established following the enactment of the Jharkhand Academic Council Act, 2003 by the Jharkhand State Legislature. Prior to its formation, educational affairs in the region were managed by the Bihar School Examination Board and the Bihar Intermediate Education Council. Since its inception, JAC has unified the administration of secondary and intermediate education to streamline the examination cycle and results publication for the students of Jharkhand.

JAC is the primary educational authority for schools within the state of Jharkhand. It does not have jurisdiction over schools in other Indian states. Thousands of institutions are affiliated with JAC, including:

• Madrasas
• Private Schools following the state curriculum

The JAC Class 10 (Secondary) exam is based on the NCERT curriculum. The exam pattern includes both objective (MCQ) and subjective questions. Students must appear for five main subjects: Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Hindi, and English.

The JAC Class 12 (Intermediate) exams are conducted for three major streams: Science, Commerce, and Arts. The council follows the NCERT syllabus to ensure students are prepared for national entrance exams like JEE and NEET. The evaluation includes theory papers and practical assessments for relevant subjects. Similar to Class 10, a minimum of 33% is required in each subject to qualify.

The JAC 2026 Examination Schedule is expected to follow the traditional academic calendar. While the final time table is usually released in December 2025, the tentative dates are as follows:

• Class 10 Exams: Expected to begin in early February 2026 and conclude by late February 2026.
• Class 12 Exams: Expected to run concurrently from February to March 2026.
• Practical Exams: Likely to be held in January 2026.

Students enrolled in schools affiliated with JAC who have completed the required attendance are eligible to appear for the board exams. The registration process is typically handled through the respective schools. Private candidates must register through authorized centers. The process involves:

1. Filling out the examination form via the school portal.
2. Submission of previous academic records and identity proof.
3. Payment of the examination fee as prescribed by the council.

JAC results are usually declared in April or May. To pass the JAC board exams, a student must secure at least 33% marks in both theory and practical components separately.
