Finally, in 1952, the board was reconstituted and renamed as the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Over the decades, CBSE has expanded its jurisdiction from a few hundred schools to over 28,000 schools today, including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, and private independent schools. It operates under the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

CBSE has a global presence with schools affiliated in every state and Union Territory of India, as well as in over 25 countries abroad. Key highlights include:

The Class 10 board exam serves as the foundation for senior secondary education. The assessment pattern consists of:

• Theory Exam (80 Marks): Conducted at the end of the academic year.
• Internal Assessment (20 Marks): Includes periodic tests, notebook submission, and subject enrichment activities.
• Syllabus: Based strictly on NCERT textbooks covering Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and two Languages.
• Grading: A nine-point grading system (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1, D2, and E) is used to indicate performance.

The CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern is designed to evaluate both theoretical knowledge and practical application. The structure includes:

Students can choose from three main streams: Science (PCM/PCB), Commerce, and Humanities (Arts). The syllabus is updated periodically to align with modern educational needs and competitive exam requirements.

For the academic session 2025-26, the CBSE 12th 2026 Exams are tentatively scheduled to begin in the third week of February 2026 and conclude by the first week of April 2026.

• Practical Exams: Usually conducted in January 2026.
• Main Subjects: Typically scheduled from late February to March.
• Timing: Most exams are held from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

To appear for the CBSE 12th board exams, students must meet the following criteria:

• Regular Candidates: Must have passed Class 11 from a recognized board and completed the required attendance (usually 75%) in a CBSE-affiliated school.
• Private Candidates: Includes students who failed in previous years, those seeking improvement, or those in the 'Patrachar' category.
• Registration: Schools typically complete the List of Candidates (LOC) registration process by September/October of the preceding year.
• Fees: Students must pay the prescribed examination fee as notified by the board.

The CBSE 12th Results are generally declared in the month of May. The passing criteria are as follows:

• A student must score at least 33% in each subject (Theory and Practical/Internal Assessment separately).
• An overall aggregate of 33% is required to be declared 'Pass'.
• Students who fail in one subject can appear for the Compartment Examination held in July.
• Those who fail in two or more subjects must repeat the year (Essential Repeat).

CBSE offers several incentives for meritorious students:

• Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship: For college and university students who rank in the top 20th percentile.
• Single Girl Child Scholarship: Specifically for girl students who are the only child in their family.
• Merit Certificates: Awarded to the top 0.1% of students in each subject.
• CUET Advantage: The CBSE syllabus is the primary source for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) syllabus.
