Bihar Board

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is a statutory body under Section 3 of the Bihar School Examination Board Act - 1952, functioning under the Government of Bihar. It is the primary educational board responsible for conducting examinations at the secondary and senior secondary levels in both government and private schools within the state of Bihar.

Headquartered in Patna, the board is renowned for conducting large-scale examinations including the Matric (Class 10) and Intermediate (Class 12) annual exams, as well as departmental examinations such as the Diploma in Physical Education and Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).

The Class 10 (Matric) examination is a crucial milestone for students in Bihar. The exam pattern is designed to test both objective and subjective knowledge.

The syllabus is based on the NCERT curriculum. Grading is done through a division system: 1st Division (60% and above), 2nd Division (45% to 59%), and 3rd Division (30% to 44%).

The Class 12 (Intermediate) exams are conducted for three main streams: Science, Arts, and Commerce. The pattern includes 100 marks per subject, with a mix of theory and practicals (where applicable).

• Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics, English, Hindi/Urdu.

• Class 12 Theory Exams: February 1 to February 12, 2026.
• Class 10 Theory Exams: February 15 to February 23, 2026.
• Admit Card Release: January 2026.

To appear for the BSEB exams in 2026, students must meet the following criteria:

• Class 10: Must have completed Class 9 and reached the minimum age of 14 years by March 1st of the exam year.
• Class 12: Must have passed the Matriculation exam and completed the 11th-grade registration.

The Registration Process is usually handled by the respective schools. Students fill out the form provided by the board, pay the prescribed fee, and the school headmasters upload the data to the BSEB online portal.

BSEB is known for being the first board in India to declare results, usually by March or April. The passing criteria are:

• A student must score a minimum of 30% marks in each theory paper.
• For subjects with practicals, students must pass both theory and practical exams separately (usually 40% in practicals).
• Students who fail in one or two subjects can appear for the Compartmental Examination held in May/June 2026.

The Bihar Government offers several incentives for BSEB students:

• Mukhyamantri Balak/Balika Protsahan Yojana: Cash rewards (approx. ₹10,000) for 1st Division holders in Class 10.

• Free Coaching: The board offers free NEET/JEE coaching for meritorious students in selected districts.
