BIE-AP - History & Background
The Board of Intermediate Education was established in 1971 to regulate and supervise the system of Intermediate education in the state. Andhra Pradesh was the first state in India to adopt the 10+2+3 pattern of education. The board was initially located in Hyderabad but shifted its operations to Vijayawada following the bifurcation of the state. Its primary goal is to standardize the curriculum for Junior Colleges and ensure a smooth transition for students from secondary school to higher university education.
Affiliated Schools & States Under BIE-AP
BIE-AP governs all government, private aided, and private unaided Junior Colleges within the state of Andhra Pradesh. It does not have jurisdiction over other states. The colleges offer various streams including Science, Humanities (Arts), and Commerce. The board ensures that all affiliated institutions follow the prescribed academic calendar and infrastructure guidelines set by the state government.
BIE-AP Class 10 Exam - Pattern, Syllabus & Grading
It is important to note that BIE-AP does not conduct the Class 10 (SSC) examinations. Class 10 exams in Andhra Pradesh are conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Andhra Pradesh (BSEAP). BIE-AP only manages the Intermediate First Year (Class 11) and Intermediate Second Year (Class 12). Students must pass the SSC examination from BSEAP or an equivalent board to be eligible for admission into the BIE-AP Intermediate courses.
BIE-AP Class 12 Exam - Pattern, Syllabus & Grading
The BIE-AP Class 12 (Senior Intermediate) exam is the final hurdle for school-level education. The board offers three main streams:
- Science: MPC (Maths, Physics, Chemistry) and BiPC (Biology, Physics, Chemistry).
- Commerce: CEC (Commerce, Economics, Civics).
- Arts/Humanities: HEC (History, Economics, Civics).
Grading System: BIE-AP uses a GPA system. The passing mark for each subject is 35%. Students are awarded grades such as A, B, C, or D based on their percentage ranges. Practical exams are mandatory for science subjects and carry 30 marks, while theory papers carry 70 or 100 marks depending on the subject.
